Rectifying the Sins of Summer

Autumn is a season of transition as we prepare our skin for the pending cooler months and seek repair following an intense summer. At this time of year it can be a natural inclination for some to seek aggressive treatment, with laser clinic inundated with people keen to undo the ravages caused by the elements of summer. We encourage a more gentle approach, with a little TLC and nourishment we can encourage our skin to renew and repair itself with the use of hydrating oils, active serums and nutrient dense creams. So chill out and say hello to a glowy autumn complexion with a few simple tweaks to your regime.

The harsher elements of summer (think sun, sea & sand) result in a build-up of tired cells, which can lead to a rough and lack-lustre complexion. A cream cleanser offers hydration whilst washing away impurities; it also won’t disrupt the skins delicate mantle or strip us of our natural oils or sebum. The added benefit of our Ecdysis Bio-Ferment Enzyme Cleanse is the inclusion of enzymes that gently dissolve dead skin cells to reveal fresh cells that are better able to absorb active ingredients.

The damaging effects of photo-damage become all to clear once the tan fades away, often revealing hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, freckles and an increase in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The use of Vitamin A (retinol) and Vitamin C promote collagen and elastin repair and deep cellular renewal, encouraging and supporting cell turnover to reveal a more refined and rejuvenated complexion. Ocinium’s Elemental A+C+E Serum is a high antioxidant serum that works hard to reverse the effects of environmentally induced accelerated ageing.

As the air becomes cooler and drier, hydration becomes perhaps the most important part of our skincare regime. Protecting ourselves from the elements by using richer products and layering them for added benefit. Dehydrated faces will benefit from the addition of a facial oil which can restore hydration by locking in moisture, whilst fatty acids and botanical nutrients are delivered into the underlying layers, see our Papaya & Pomegranate Facial Oil. Facial oils may be applied over serums, creams and even make up for a dewy complexion, in particular oils work well to lock in the plethora of nutrients present in our Metamorphis Multivitamin Cream, allowing them to penetrate deeply into skin layers.

Don’t forget the benefits of Hyaluronic acid; this water loving molecule increases tissue hydration, its low molecular weight assists the delivery of actives into the skin, resulting in smoother and supple looking skin and a reduction in find lines and wrinkles, fortunately you’ll find this plumping beauty in most of the Ocinium range!

Cold temperature restricts blood vessels and impairs circulation, whilst exercise is the most effective way to get the blood pumping, there are products that can assist microcirculation of the skin. The adaptogenic herb Ginseng stimulates blood flow and microcirculation, which encourages an immune response and promotes detoxification of the skin. Antioxidant rich Green Tea is known for its thermogenic ability, which effectively increases the skins metabolic rate, thus improving the removal of toxins and stimulating renewal. Find these circulatory and detoxifying ingredients working together in our Green Tea & Ginseng Facial Oil.

Our lips are often the first place to show the signs of dehydration and are highly susceptible to dry, cold winds. Luxe Lip balm is our best friend when it comes to preventing and treating chapped lips.

So just as you layer your clothing, layer your products to get the maximum benefit from your skincare this season.
